Psychological Motifs in Salah Rash’s Rash Diwan

Abstract

This research paper is an investigation about psychological criticism method and demonstrates the importance and impact of psychological aspects of authors or poets on their collected works as well as showing the relation between psychological aspects and literature. Simultaneously, it is an attempt to show the dynamic relations between the author, the text, and the reader. Moreover, it explains that literature always remains attached to tradition and invalidates the one-dimensional thinking that says literature belongs only to literature and deprives it from historical, psychological and social events. The main purpose of this study is working on the psychological motifs such as culture, incomplete love, war and its disasters, poverty, color, and self-inferiority which have been depicted in this poet’s poems. He has practically proven that his texts were born under psychological motifs. At the beginning, we have presented the psychiatrists’ view on psychological criticism concepts according to historical eras starting from Plato’s viewpoints on poetry’s impact on reader’s mind to Aristotle’s perspective on tragedy to Sigmond Freud’s psychoanalytic views to Neo-Freudian such as Cark Gustav Yung Yong to Alfred Adler and I have indicated in a clear way the differences regarding the relation between psychology and literature.
